I’m Andy, a pianist of 25+ years and piano teacher of 12+ years.
I’ve noticed a problem with the traditional lesson model: you take a 30-minute lesson once a week, and then I don’t see you again for another week. In that gap, it’s easy to forget what we covered, get discouraged, miss practice, and have questions you can’t ask in the moment.
Piano lessons can be lonely, especially for adults. And it’s sometimes hard to find a teacher who isn’t classical-first in their approach, if that’s not what you want to learn.
I’m building an online piano community for adults, focused on modern playing (songs, chords, rhythm, ear) and I’m inviting founding members to join free while we shape the format.
With the technology we have now, I think it’s time for a change.
Instead of weekly lessons, I’m building a more flexible, asynchronous approach where we trade short videos online. Here’s what that looks like: I send you a quick instructional video (just a few minutes). You practice it for a day or two, then record a short video and send it back. I respond with feedback, adjustments, and resources to keep you moving forward.
The best part is that this scales in a way that helps everyone: my responses to other students can help you, and my responses to you can help other students.
As I said before, piano can be a lonely hobby. Learning alongside other people – and building community around a shared goal – makes it easier to stay motivated and improve.
I’m building the community on Discord
Discord is a free chat program (although in many ways it’s much more than just a chat program). Click the button below to join my community (called a “Discord server”). If you’ve never used Discord before, you’ll have to sign up for a free account.
